Normal procedure

• First time using Tornado 2 on Solaris:

• Open an xterm window
• Modify the .cshrc file in your home directory (Unix runs this script every time you open a terminal window)
dtpad .cshrc &
• Add the following lines at the end of .cshrc:

##      Allow program windows from other machines to show up on this machine
##      (Tornado 2 actually runs on knife)
###
xhost +

###
##      The following environment variables support vxWorks for Sun Solaris

setenv WIND_BASE /usr/local/wind
setenv WIND_HOST_TYPE sun4-solaris2
setenv WIND_REGISTRY knife.db.erau.edu
setenv PATH ${WIND_BASE}/host/sun4-solaris2/bin:${PATH}
setenv LD_LIBRARY_PATH ${WIND_BASE}/host/sun4-solaris2/lib:${LD_LIBRARY_PATH}

• Save .cshrc, close dtpad, and close xterm window
• Open an xterm window.
• Start the Tornado Registry:
wtxregd &
• Start Tornado:
launch &
• Some of the window positioning is a little different, but conceptually everything else is the same as using the WinNT version Host.

NOTES:

• You currently cannot download to VME from Solaris, becase we do not have the proper BSP's for VME target and Solaris host.
• You might also want to add the following lines to your .cshrc file:
 
#     Set backspace to erase
stty erase ^?

#     Remove without prompting
alias rm "rm -f"
 

• Tornado 2 cannot run without modifying the .cschrc file, since the actual executables are located on Solaris machine knife (IP 155.31.72.48).
